We spent several years searching everywhere, including Thailand, for someone to help create the perfect Thai meals for Amys customers, but with no success. And then, serendipitously, in Amys own Tech department, we found Olarn who is part-owner of a Thai restaurant right here in Santa Rosa where our plant is located. We immediately asked him to prepare some Thai dishes for us and he did. They were so delicious that we knew our customers would love them. Pad Thai is Amys moms favorite. Pad is the Thai word for stir fried, but the dish itself is of Vietnamese origin, which was adopted by Thailand in the 1940s and soon became a popular food served by street vendors there. In the West it is the most often ordered item on Thai restaurant menus. The traditional Thai sweet and sour taste forms the basis of Amys version of this dish of broad rice noodles with tofu, julienned carrots, green onions, broccoli and baked cashews instead of the more commonly used peanuts in the sauce.
